Menorca
Mallorca

For sun-baked sandy beaches, peace and tranquillity it doesn’t come much better than a holiday in Menorca, the Jewel of the Balearics.

The second largest of a group of four idyllic Spanish islands, Menorca is completely unspoilt and has more beaches than its sister islands Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera put together.

Every year this picturesque holiday destination with its dazzling, white-washed villas and apartments attracts families and couples looking for a relaxed, safe getaway where sunshine comes as part of the package and there’s plenty to see and do.

Menorca Home From Home offers quality self-catering accommodation in this understated holiday hot spot.

We currently have a stunning two bedroom apartment with a shared pool on an exclusive apartment complex 20 minutes drive from Mahon, Menorca’s capital.

Beach Heaven
Menorca’s stunning coastline spans over 200km. Beaches are luxurious and undeveloped with secluded coves, clear turquoise sea and warm sand. With sunshine guaranteed 315 days of the year and temperatures reaching around 30° Celsius but cooled to perfection by the Mediterranean breeze it is a sunbathers’ paradise.

Menorca boasts some of the best stretches of sand in Europe. Choose from beautiful small coves like Alcaufar, Son Bou, Cala N' Porter and the Marcarealla Bay or the stunning beach at Sant Tomas.  There are 100 in total all offering a safe haven for swimming and exhilarating water sports.
As to where to stay and visit, low-key beach resorts include Punta Prima, Binibeca, Cala'n Porter, Santo Thomas, Cala Galdana, Cala n Bosc, Cala Forcat, Cala Blanca and Arenal d'en Castell.

More Than Just A Beach
But Menorca offers more than just sun, sea and sand. This compact island is only 30 miles long and 12 miles wide meaning you can explore as much or as little of it as you like. It’s even possible to circle the island on foot, by bike or on horse back along the Cami de Cavalls path.

Rich in cultural heritage, there’s impressive mountain scenery, ancient architecture and a wealth of archaeological sites and prehistoric stone formations. The naveta of Es Tudons is said to be the oldest building in Europe. Pine woodland is lush and fragrant and of particular interest are the 90 caves nestled in the coastal cliffs that once served as homes for the islanders.  Isolated coves can be reached by boat and many visitors enjoy seeing what’s under the sea by taking excursions on glass bottomed catamarans.

With several unique ecosystems within the island's natural environments, Menorca has earned UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status. And although largely flat, it rises up to the highest point of Mount Toro offering 360 degree panoramic views of its beautiful landscape. The Mount is also home to a delightful Renaissance church that steeped in local legend is a shrine to the island's patron saint.

There are protected wildlife reserves and bustling ports including the capital Mahon which has the world’s second deepest harbour and with stylish yachts and boats, plenty of chic restaurants and bars, is a great place to people watch.

For active holiday makers, as well as a good range of water sports including diving, there are good facilities for tennis, horse riding, golf, squash and bowling.  There’s even an Aqua park in Cala Forcat which is great for all- round family fun.

Menorcans love fiestas and high season there are plenty of three day festivals of dancing, food and traditional Menorcan culture. The celebration of Sant Juan in Ciutadella is the largest.
There are markets at Mahon, Ciutadella, Es Castell, Alaio and Ferreries selling local produce and crafts, leather goods and souvenirs and pretty white-washed inland towns all well worth a visit.

Although quiet and peaceful in the evenings, Menorca does have nightlife for those who need it. There are plenty of late night bars and nightclubs in the resorts.
