Bulgaria is fast becoming one of the most popular all-year-round holiday destinations in Eastern Europe. Bordered by the former Yugoslavia, Turkey, Greece, Romania and the Black Sea, this eclectic, cosmopolitan and friendly country boasts great beaches, breathtaking mountain scenery and all at extremely affordable prices.

Home From Home offers quality self catering accommodation on the Black Sea coastline in eastern Bulgaria. A fine selection of well-equipped holiday apartments in relaxing, picturesque settings, all benefitting from fine beaches and holiday resort facilities and within easy travelling distance of historic towns.

Best for Safe Beaches

Bulgaria's Black Sea coastline is an impressive 400 kilometres long. There are good beaches at Varna, St. Konstantine, Golden Sands and as its name suggests Sunny Beach with more at Bourgas, Albena, Elinite and Pomorie. All are defined by a stunning natural backdrop of mountains and forest.

In addition to their beauty and golden sands, Bulgaria’s beaches are extremely safe with many earning EEC Blue Flag status. Water sports are popular and with a lack of tides coupled with shores that shelve gently into the sea, the beaches are a safe haven for families and swimmers of all standards and ages.

The Bulgarian bathing experience is made even more pleasurable by the Black Sea’s low level salt content - well under half that of the Mediterranean Sea.  Plus there’s the added attraction of a superb summer climate – average summer temperatures of 28C to 30C and a sea temperature of an inviting 24 C to 26C.  In July and August, you can expect around 10 hours of sunshine a day.

Beyond the Beach

Bulgaria has a rich and diverse landscape that is blessed with magnificent mountain ranges, wild fauna and flora. There are lush forests and mineral springs, national parks, coastal lakes, beautiful monasteries and historic towns with colourful local customs.  It’s proving to be a mecca for hikers, swimmers, golfers and fishing fanatics alike.

Key Destinations

As Bulgaria’s reputation as a first class holiday destination grows, key towns and resorts along the Black Sea coastline are becoming more and more sophisticated, rivalling those in Western Europe and the Mediterranean countries. These include Balchik, Bourgas, Elenite, Golden Sands, Pomorie, Ravda/Nessebar, Sozopol, Sunny Beach and Varna.

Sunny Beach in particular has put itself on the map as a centre for all things chic with 5 star hotels, classy restaurants and a lively nightlife. And in sharp contrast, the ancient little town of Nessebar located on a rocky peninsular with its cobbled streets lined with stone and timber houses attracts hoards of tourists day and night.

Value for Money

Holidaying in Bulgaria tends to be cheaper than in most other European countries. Food and drink is extremely reasonably priced whether eating in or dining out.  So too are excursions and water sports.

Timing

Thanks to its temperate climate, Bulgaria really is an all-year-round holiday destination.  Snow fall from December through to April turns the Bulgarian mountains into a winter sports paradise. Take a beach holiday on the Black Sea Coast during April to mid-June and enjoy mild pleasant weather without the crowds.  And from mid-June to September the conditions are simply perfect for a beach or outdoor-activity based holiday.

Skiing in Bulgaria

With its ski season running from mid December to April, Bulgaria is a popular winter sports destination with high quality mountain resorts well established in both the northern and southern regions. Bansko, Borovets, Pamporovo and Smolyan in particular are fast becoming firm favourites of people looking for an alternative destination to Western Europe.

The Rila Mountains situated to the south of Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria, has the Musala Peak which at 2925m is the highest in the country and lies between the Alps and the Pirin Massif. Rental apartments and chalets tend to be of very high quality as most are newly built and designed to meet today’s needs and preferences.  And with plenty of airlines flying to Sofia (Easy Jet, BA, Thomas Cook, Thomson Fly and Bulgarian Air to name a few), getting to the ski areas is straightforward and reasonably priced too.
